How to Read THCa Lab Results (COA Guide)

What is a COA?

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a lab report from an independent, third-party laboratory that verifies what's actually in a hemp product. Every product we carry is lab-tested, and reading a COA takes about two minutes once you know where to look.

COAs matter most for high-potency products like vapes and clearly dosed edibles, but you should expect one for every jar of flower too.

Read it in four steps

Verify the basics
Check the lab name, the product/batch name matches what you bought, and the test date is recent (ideally within the last year).

Find the potency table
Look for the cannabinoid results — usually a table listing THCa, Delta-9 THC, CBD, and totals, reported as percentages by weight (or mg/g).

Confirm compliance
The Delta-9 THC line must read below 0.3% by dry weight. That single number is what makes the product legal hemp.

Scan the safety panels
Full-panel COAs also test for pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and microbials. "Pass" on each panel means the product is clean.

Some COAs also show "Total THC" — a calculated estimate of potency after decarboxylation (THCa × 0.877 + Delta-9). It's the most realistic picture of how strong the flower will feel when smoked or vaped.

Red flags & pro tips

No COA? Walk away

A seller who can't produce a recent, batch-matched COA from an independent lab is asking you to take their word for it. Don't.

Match the batch

COAs are per-batch. A report for a different batch — or a different product entirely — proves nothing about what's in your bag.
